Blue Monday has come around again, which psychologist, Cliff Arnall, describes as the UK’s most miserable day of the year. This is for many reasons including the end of the festive season, and let’s face it, the January weather. On this gloomy day, we’ve pulled together the top five ways adventure can have a profound effect on yours and your children’s wellbeing.
Physical activity in nature and the feeling of being part of nature really enhances health and wellbeing. We all know from times of pandemic lockdown the absolutely humongous difference getting outdoors made on our sense of wellbeing. That feeling of connection with the environment and immersion in nature gives us a unique chance to relax and revel in life. And for when it’s needed, to gain perspective. Children love being immersed in an adventure, at Camp Beaumont so much of what we do gets children outdoors and surrounded by nature.
Outdoor adventure activities, at Camp Beaumont we have loads, from Eco Explorers to Mini Olympic sessions, are ideal examples of physical activity for children in nature. The impact of physical activity increases motivation, enables emotional regulation, brain growth and improves physical health, as well as wellbeing.
Outdoor adventures also have restorative benefits. Being directly immersed in an adventure not only improves wellbeing it’s been proven to reduce stress. Creating a lifestyle that involves adventure and keeping fit also improves your ability to cope with life’s stressors, whatever they may be. Did you know that 87% of Finnish people, the happiest people in the world, believe that nature is important to them because it gives them peace of mind, energy and relaxation?* Let's be more like the Finns!
For young children in particular, adventure is a way to discover more about themselves. It also facilitates self-determination and the chance to step out of their comfort zones when participating in new adventure activities. Spending time participating in outdoor adventure within nature increases our vitality, self-esteem, well-being and gives us a sense of personal growth. There is so much to be learned through adventure experiences no matter what age, which can be attributed to an individual’s capacity to adapt to challenges and lead a happy life.
We can hear many parents jumping for joy at this! Being active and going on a new adventure creates the ideal environment to use up lots of energy and feel super tired. Also it's a great foundation for wonderful dreams and contented children. Sleeping well has transformational benefits and plays an important role in improving wellbeing

My little one had a great time at Camp Beaumont! When your 5 year old doesn't even look back when you wave them off in the morning - you know they're doing something great.
