Did you know that there is a Quidditch Premier League? Yes, that’s right! The Quidditch Premier League is a summer league of competitive Quidditch play between teams from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
In association with Enrich Education and Quidditch UK (QUK), we are delighted to be bringing this much-loved (by Harry Potter fans) activity to the following camps and dates this summer:
Tuesday 10th August to Friday 13th August
Tuesday at Colfe’s School, Blackheath
Wednesday at Kings College School, Wimbledon
Thursday at Claremont Fan Court School, Esher
Friday at St John’s Beaumont School, in Old Windsor (that looks incredibly similar to Hogwarts!)
Monday 16th August to Thursday 19th August
Monday at St Helen’s School, Northwood
Tuesday at Harrow School, Harrow
Wednesday at UCS Sports Ground, Hampstead
Thursday at Mill Hill School, Mill Hill
How to book:
All you need to do is book your child's camp place on the relevant date and location, as per the above, and they will automatically be enlisted into our Quidditch tournament! Please note, Quidditch is available for 5 to 16 year olds and not our Playtime group.
So how do you actually play Quidditch?
Obviously, we aren’t able to fly – so that’s out the window! A Quidditch team usually consists of around 18 athletes with 7 players per team on the field at any given time of play. The use of brooms is introduced after the age of 11 as there is an emphasis on the younger children to develop the motor skills of receiving and running with the quaffle.
There are four types of positions on the field:
Chaser – their main aim is to throw the quaffle through the opposite team’s hoops to score goals (each goal is worth 10 points for the team).
Keepers – these players guard the hoops against opposing chasers to ensure that they don’t score any goals. These then can turn into a chaser on the offence.
Beaters – throwing blungers at the opposition to ‘get them out’ and making them return to their hoops is the main goal for the beaters. This is a very similar trait to the classic game of dodgeball.
Seekers – similar to the version in Harry Potter, the player who catches the snitch earns 30 points for their team and then ends the game –potentially making their team victorious.
