Summer may be over, but that just means Halloween fun is getting closer! It’s so important to have something to look forward to, especially when going back to school or starting a new school may have felt quite daunting. Fret not, all the excitement of Halloween and another break in October is almost within reach! If you’re looking to find an exhilarating day or week of adventure for your three to 16 year olds - with some fun Halloween activities included as an added extra treat - find an October half-term camp near you, here
In the meantime, we’ve created a list of our top seven favourite activity ideas your child can have a go at in the build-up to spooky season. It’s not all about pumpkin carving!
This may sound gross, but it is strangely satisfying! Cook a whole packet of spaghetti and cool under cold water. Place this in a very large bowl/washing up tub with, you guessed it, some toy eyeballs (which you could also make out of table tennis balls, if you have these to hand). Then it’s time for your child to dig in to find the eyeballs! For extra fun, add some creepy creatures in, such as, toy spiders, and play blindfolded.
Each player will need their own pumpkin for this (something you could do pre-carving). With a broom or tennis racket (whatever you have available), sweep the pumpkins to the finish line and back again, whoever is quickest wins!
Forget carving pumpkins, pineapple lanterns are much more terrifying looking. You could also carve more friendly looking versions too! Check out our blog for all you’ll need.
Blow up some orange balloons and draw jack o’ lantern faces on them. Each person has their own balloon. Then with a paper or plastic cup, time five minutes and see who can throw and catch their balloon in their cup the most times, the fastest.
What’s better than squidging green slime between your fingers to get into the Halloween mood? It’s also easier to make than you may think. Have a read of our blog for all the details.
Find a variety of items, ideally Halloween themed and hide these around your home. Then create some lists for each person to tick off as they race around finding them. The fastest to find all items wins. If you don’t have any Halloween items, you could make it fancy dress themed instead, or do both!
Write some Halloween themed jokes on pieces of paper and place each of them inside some orange balloons. Blow the balloons up and seal with some green ribbon tied in a bow (to resemble leaves), or if you’re feeling crafty, create your own leaves from green paper; thread and fasten with some string.

The staff are brilliant: enthusiastic, kind and engaged. The range of activities is great and the hours are really helpful for working parents. Most importantly our son always comes home happy and tired from a fun day.
